When you're buying a first family home, size and psf price are only part of it. You also want easy school runs, somewhere for the kids to play outside, and weekends that aren't spent in traffic. Preschools nearby

Bukit Panjang has a good spread of preschools within walking distance of Senja Close, including MindChamps Preschool, My First Skool (at Senja Valley and Jelapang) and several PCF Sparkletots centres. If you have a toddler or preschooler, that keeps drop-offs short.

Parks nearby

Zhenghua Nature Park is close to Senja Close, with trails through secondary forest and along the Pang Sua Canal. It's a good spot for family cycling, a weekend jog or a walk with young children.

A little further away, Dairy Farm Nature Park has the Wallace Education Centre, trails of different difficulty and a quarry area where you may spot birds and other wildlife. Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is a short drive or bus ride away for longer weekend hikes.

Primary schools nearby

For most young families, schools come first. Greenridge Primary School and Zhenghua Primary School are both in the area. If your home is within 1km of a school, you get priority in Phase 2C of the P1 registration exercise, so check the exact distance from the Senja Close site on OneMap before you rely on it. Past balloting results vary from year to year, so look up the latest figures rather than assuming a place is safe.

Greenridge Primary is known for its environmental education programme, and Zhenghua Primary for its focus on character development. Being able to walk your child to school is one less thing to plan around each morning.

A smaller development

At around 295 units, Solano Grand is a mid-sized EC. With fewer households, it's easier to get to know your neighbours, and the shared facilities are used by fewer families, so they should be less crowded.

Bukit Panjang is a mature estate with an established community. Hillion Mall and Bukit Panjang Plaza form the town centre, and there are wet markets, hawker centres and neighbourhood shops around the estate, which newer towns are still building up.

Weekends with young kids

From Solano Grand, families can:

• Walk to Jelapang LRT and connect to Bukit Panjang MRT for trips into town
• Drive about 10 minutes to Junction 10 for casual dining and groceries
• Cycle along the Rail Corridor
• Join enrichment classes and community events at Senja-Cashew Community Centre

You get the everyday basics close by without paying central-district prices, and without the half-built feel of a brand-new town.

What it costs

At an indicative $1,500–$1,900 psf, Solano Grand is expected to be priced below comparable private condos in District 23. For families upgrading from an HDB flat, that makes condo living more reachable without taking on a full private condo price. Eligible households can get CPF Housing Grants of up to $30,000 for an EC, and under the old EC framework the MOP is 5 years, so you can plan your next move after that.

If you want condo facilities, a settled neighbourhood, schools and parks nearby, and a price below private condos, Solano Grand EC is one of the stronger options in the west for young families. Compare it against your own budget and school plans before you commit.
